## Observe

Satellites, weather stations and other instruments supply measurements. Coverage and quality shape everything that follows.

Measurements of the atmosphere

Observations have gaps and errors. They are not a complete global state.

An input to assimilation and to some nowcasting systems.

## Assimilate

Data assimilation brings observations into an estimate of the current atmosphere. Earth-2 Global Data Assimilation is the HealDA component described by NVIDIA.

Initial atmospheric conditions

The January 2026 announcement described this component as a later release. This explainer does not assert its current availability.

An initial state can seed a medium-range forecast.

## Forecast

Earth-2 Medium Range uses Atlas to generate weather predictions up to 15 days ahead, as described in its release announcement.

Predicted weather across a longer horizon

A forecast is not an observation or a guarantee. Skill depends on the variable, region, horizon and comparison.

Forecasts inform a decision; they do not make it.

## Nowcast

Earth-2 Nowcasting uses StormScope with satellite and radar information for local storm prediction over zero to six hours.

Short-range predictions of local weather

Nowcasting is a complementary branch, not the mandatory next stage of every medium-range forecast.

Recent observations support a different forecast horizon.

## Warn

Weather information becomes useful when responsible agencies and communities can interpret it and act. Bright’s final step explains that wider decision pathway.

A decision about preparation and warning

This page issues no warnings. A model announcement cannot establish that a warning reached people or prevented harm.

## Limitations

A conceptual workflow, not an Earth-2 model run, live weather, accuracy evaluation or warning service. The separate retained forecast instrument uses ECMWF AIFS, not Earth-2.
